About: Louis Poulsen
This Danish lighting manufactory, with headquarters in Copenhagen, was founded by Ludvig R. Poulsen in 1892. At that time the company, which was already Poulsen's second business, mainly supplied tools and electrical components. It is only after his death, when his nephew Louis partnered up with Sophus Kaastrup-Olsen in 1911, that the foundations were laid for the lighting firm that is known today as Louis Poulsen & Co.
Successful collaborations with leading architects and designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Vilhelm Lauritzen and Poul Henningsen gave the company an iconic status. Amongst other classic designs, the company produced Henningsen’s famous PH-lamps that became one of the visual trademarks of Louis Poulsen and maybe even of Scandinavian lighting design in general.
